સુરતી ઉંધીયું,ફેસબુક​,ટ્વીટર ઈત્યાદીમાં “ગુજરાતી” ને ગર્વભેર ગરીમા અપાવનારા પ​.પૂ.શ્રી રતિભાઇ ને શ્રધ્ધાંજલિ તેમના જ લેક્શિકોન લિપિ વડે જ આપ​વી પડે એ જ એમનું શ્રધ્ધા-સુમન છે.

ગુજરાતીલેક્સિકોન એટલેશબ્દોનો ભંડોળ. અત્યાર સુધી જ્યારેપણ ગુજરાતીલેક્સિકોન ઉપર કોઈ પણ શબ્દનો ગુજરાતી કે અંગ્રેજી અર્થ શોધવામાં આવે અને ત્યાં તે ઉપલબ્ધ બને ત્યારે આનંદની લાગણી થતી હતી. પણ આજે એ જ ગુજરાતીલેક્સિકોના શબ્દકોશમાં શ્રદ્ધાંજલિ શબ્દ રતિકાકાએ કરેલા કાર્યો વર્ણવા માટે જાણે વામણો પુરવાર થાય છે. શ્રદ્ધાંજલિ કે અંજલિ રૂપી શબ્દોમાં રતિકાકા કે એમણે ગુજરાતીલેક્સિકોન માટે કરેલા કાર્યોને વર્ણવવું અતિ મુશ્કેલ છે. ફક્ત એટલું કહી શકાય કે રતિકાકા હંમેશા ગુજરાતીલેક્સિકોન સ્વરૂપે અમર રહેશે.

ઉત્તમભાઈ ગજ્જર,બળવંતભાઈ પટેલ અને રતીભાઈએ મને તેમની ઈ મેઈલનો ભેરુ બનાવ્યો હતો.શરુઆતમાં રોજની બે ત્રણ ઈ મેઈલ આવતી.પછી અઠવાડિયે બે ચાર આવતી. છેલ્લે છેલ્લે ઘટતી ગઈ. છેલ્લી ઈ મેઈલ પર્યુષણની– મિચ્છામિ દુક્કડમ ની. અઢળક પ્રેમ આપ્યો છે .મને અને મારા લખાણોને. તે મારા લેખો વાંચી તે હસતા તેથી હું જ ધન્ય થઈ જતો. હવે તો અમારા ત્રણના કમ્પ્યુટર પણ ખાલિપો અનુભવે છે. હા, મારા માટે પોતાને ત્યાં મુંબઈમાં બે વાર મિત્રોનું સ્નેહમિલન યોજ્યું હતું. તે કેમ ભૂલાય?

શ્રીમાન (સ્વ.) રતીલાલ ચંદરીયાની વસમી વિદાયના સમાચાર ખરેખર દુ:ખજનક છે અને તેમાં ઈશ્વર (કુદરત)ની મરજી શામેલ છે.

ગુજરાતી લેક્સીકોનનો ઉપયોગ કરનારા લાખો ગુજરાતીઓ (જેમાં હું પણ શામેલ છું) ને આ ખોટ સહેવી જ રહી, કેમ કે આ કુદરતનો કાયદો છે.

ખરેખર શ્રીમાન (સ્વ.) રતીલાલ ચંદરીયા ની સ્મ્રુતિ સદા આવતી રહેશે. તેમના આત્માની શાંતિ માટેની શુભેચ્છા સહિત.

I did not personally know Mr. Ratilal Chandariya, nor did I have any direct communication with him. I had intended to get in touch with him to convey to him, not just my regards but my heartfelt appreciation for the highly worthwhile work that he had done. Unfortunately, I waited too long, telling myself that I shall do so at the right time. Now he is gone, and I have missed my chance. Now this obituary, a poor substitute for personal communication, will have to do as homage.
In 2009, my husband, Arun, and I published a book in Marathi, containing literary appreciation of two major episodes from the Mahabharata. Since I know Gujarati as well as Marathi, I thought that, perhaps, I should translate that book in Gujarati . But I needed a good dictionary. When I learnt the existence of Gujarati Lexicon, I thought, God sent! The Gujarati translation of our book was recently published. I could not have done it without GujaratiLexicon.
I wanted to send him a copy of my book, and then tell him what a help his GujaratiLexicon has been. I regret that I was too late
